Scripture Lesson: 1 John 4:7-8

Modern Love

What is Love?

Week #1

  1. Love is more than a feeling.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. – Romans 5:6-7

  1. Love is not an ACTION WORD!

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8

  1. Love changes everything!

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!  For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! -Romans 5:9-10

  1. Love calls us to boast.

Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. – Romans 5:11

Points To Ponder

  1. How does God define love?

  1. In what way is the cross of Christ the clearest and fullest expression of the love of God?

  1. What are examples of ways God enables you to love others in the same way he loves you?
