Scripture Lesson:
Into The Wilderness
The Test
Week #3
- Jesus obeys God.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. – Matthew 4:1
- Jesus is hungry.
After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. – Matthew 4:2
- The devil is always looking for an opening.
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” – Matthew 4:3
- Jesus is not phased.
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
Points To Ponder
- Describe a time when God led you to do or say something unexpected. Did you follow his prompting? If so, what happened as a result?
- The life of Jesus is the ultimate example of living fully surrendered to God’s will. What are some areas in your life that you have been unwilling to surrender—or re-surrender—to God’s leading?
- Describe a time when you were so “hangry” that you said or did something out of character. What happened as a result?
- When we are in the moment, we can be quick to satisfy our physical desires and disregard the standard God expects for his followers. Why do you think we give in to the lust of the flesh so easily?
- What are you filling the empty spaces of your soul with when you are lonely, tired, scared, or depressed?
