Scripture Lesson: John 1:29-34

Into The Wilderness

One. Big. Day.

Week #2

  1. This was a big day.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. – Matthew 3:13

  1. John knew his role.

But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” – Matthew 3:14

  1. God’s timing is always perfect.

Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. – Matthew 3:15

  1. This was a really special day.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” – Matthew 3:16-17

Points To Ponder

  1. Have you felt unqualified to complete a given task in your workplace? How did that feeling affect your job performance?

  1. Describe a time when you felt unqualified to accomplish something God had asked you to do. Did you step back or step up to the challenge? What was the outcome of your decision?

  1. Do you expect that God will equip you with everything good you need to accomplish his will? How have you seen God use Scripture and a Christ-centered community to equip people for ministry?

  1. Why was it important for Jesus to be baptized by John?

  1. What areas of your life do you need to submit to God’s will and God’s Word this week?
