He Will Be Called

Prince Of Peace

Week #4

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulder. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  - Isaiah 9:6

Prince of Peace

שַׁר־  (sar)  -   prince, chief, captain, ruler,  keeper, chief captain, steward,  –the one in charge

Jesus – “The One In Charge”

  1. The most excellent Crown

  1. He’s big brother.

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.                - Zechariah 9:9-10

  1. He’s BIG Brother.

“Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’? - Job 38:8-11

So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”               - Luke 13:7-9

  1. He supplies the necessary foundation for growth.

  1. A prince of dependability

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, - Hebrews 6:19

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. - John 10:28-29

  1. A foundation of sure security

He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be our peace when the Assyrians invade our land and march through our fortresses. - Micah 5:4-5a

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:13-14

  1. He’s the most sure Source of true peace

if you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” - John 14:7

Points To Ponder

  1. After the build-up to Christmas and the let-down after it is over, what does it teach us once again about the one thing needful? What is the cause of our need? What is the outflowing of having that need met in the manger?

  1. How does the review of God’s promise kept offer further support for the living out of a godly life?
