Reaching Out

At Christ the Rock, we don’t often have formal outreach events.  We don’t use gimmicks or tricks to get people in.We don’t just “market” our church through canvassing, mass mailings, or telemarketing.

Instead, we believe that God’s vision for sharing the grace, hope, and peace of Jesus with the world has always been person to person in the context of friendships, mercy, kindness, and love.  God told his people who had been deported to a foreign country far away from home, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile.  Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”   (Jeremiah 29:7)  In other words, “love the city; invest in the city to show it the grace God has shown to you.” Jesus told his followers, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

At Christ the Rock, we continually equip, urge, and encourage Christ-followers to love and pray for their community; to live out the grace, hope, and peace of Jesus in their community; and to share message of Jesus when people ask them “to give the reason for the hope that they have.”

If you are interested in getting involved in outreach ministry, there are countless ways to do that:

  1. Pray for our community and your neighborhood regularly.  Pray also that God gives you opportunities to share the hope of Jesus in your words and actions.
  2. Get involved in your community.  Join a local board, serve at community events, contribute to local charities (that you can support in good conscience as a Christ follower.)
  3. Get to know your neighbors.  Serve and help them when the opportunities come.
  4. Prepare for opportunities to share the hope of Christ by reviewing the truths about Jesus and what He means to you.
  5. Learn to actively love your brothers and sisters in Jesus.  Jesus said that one way “outsiders” would know we have the “real thing” was if they observed us truly loving one another.  (John 13:35)
