Small Groups
Luke 24 tells about two followers of Jesus who were wearily walking to the small town of Emmaus on that first Easter evening. They were devastated, dragging feet, and staring at the ground. They really had hoped that Jesus was the Messiah/Savior, but now he was gone forever, crucified by the vile Romans. And to make matters worse, Jesus’ body had disappeared, though some women claimed to have seen him alive.
We’re told that Jesus appeared to them and walked beside them, but they didn’t recognize him. As they explained their disappointment in this whole messy situation, Jesus began to explain the Scriptures to them, to show them that all of this-the suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection-were all part of the big plan to save sinful people and give them heaven as a gift.
As they sat down to eat with Jesus, he broke the bread, and their eyes were opened. They recognized their living Savior! But, in a flash he was gone. They turned to each other: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” They immediately ran all the way back to Jerusalem where the other disciples were hiding just to let them know: “We have seen the Lord!”
When people walk together with Jesus, great things happen! Our eyes are opened to see him more clearly, his amazing love and his great purpose for our lives. Our hearts are warmed with a burning desire to love each other as brothers and sisters and to share Jesus’ message of hope with those who don’t know it.
It’s our prayer that this might happen in our Small Groups as we Walk Together with Jesus!
At CTR, We gather as small groups of 8-12 people in homes throughout the community on a regular basis for Bible study, encouragement, fellowship, and Evangelism.
Our small groups provide a setting for believers to experience true community - a place where the body of Christ expresses the life and message of Christ to build one another up and redeem the world for God’s glory. A House Church is a safe place to interact in a small group with others who share common interest and goals.
A typical meeting includes Bible study, prayer, fellowship and food. Deeper relationships with each other and a closer connection to Christ make Small Groups a great place to be!
Most of our groups meet every semester for 6 to 8 weeks at a time and are open to all adults.
